Tips to keep the repair workshop from always looking dirty and messy

Professionalism or speed are key factors in the motorist’s choice of workshop. Increasingly, image is also being taken into account. Not only in terms of how the workshop returns the vehicle, as many centres deliver it perfectly clean, but also in terms of the workshop’s own image. This is where cleanliness and tidiness come into play.

There are many factors that can cause the workshop to be (or to give the impression of being) dirty and/or messy. Examples include the dirt that the vehicle picks up on the road and sticks to the undercarriage and tyres, the dust from the brakes, the gases that stain the ceiling, walls and lights and make the workshop darker, or the mechanics who spill grease, lubricants, fuel and various liquids on the floor.

Then there are the workshop machines or tools, old parts, half-used fluid containers, new spare parts packaging, etc. All of this gives the impression of disorder and an untidy workplace to the eyes of someone who brings their car to the workshop and is unfamiliar with the sector.

It is not enough for the waiting room, if there is one, to be clean; the place where the car is kept must also be clean. That is why we offer you these tips:

HOW CAN YOU MAKE YOUR WORKSHOP LOOK CLEANER AND TIDIER?

• A clean, blank wall is preferable to old posters. If possible, keep the walls and ceiling clean, which means painting them regularly, always in white.
• Don’t make the workshop look like a cave. If there is no sunlight, make sure there is at least LED lighting.
• Avoid spilling liquids on the floor and, if you do, clean it up immediately. This not only ensures cleanliness, but also prevents the liquid from damaging the surface.
• A tidy tool trolley nearby is essential. Efficiency and productivity gains. A second trolley is recommended for old parts, spare parts or fluid containers.
• Interior protectors are essential for steering wheels, gear levers, seats and floor mats. Likewise, the use of car bodywork protection, which not only protect the vehicle, but also create a good customer perception.
• When you have finished with a car, before moving on to the next one, it is a good idea to put away the old parts, throw away the packaging of the new parts, put back the tools and equipment and sweep up.
• Take 15 minutes at the end of the day or at the beginning of the day to clean the floor and workbenches. It is not enough to do this on your own late on a Friday.
• Take care of your work clothes. Change overalls or T-shirts as often as necessary during the day to look good for the customer.
