Faults due to misdiagnosis of the clutch actuation system

The clutch is one of the most sensitive parts on a car and, dare we say it, one of the workshop’s biggest headaches. The reason? Because it is one of the most stressed elements and therefore one of the most degraded over its lifetime. And from the workshop’s point of view, because repairing and replacing it is a tedious process that requires a lot of man-hours. This is why it is so important to diagnose the problem correctly, because if the workshop fails at this stage, it can itself cause certain failures, such as:

Lack of preload in the system

This type of failure occurs when there is a problem in the clutch actuation system after the clutch has been replaced. Ideally, before replacing the clutch, you should ensure that the correct preload is applied between the bearing and the diaphragm.

Problems with the forks

This occurs when there is friction caused by the fork due to wear. In such cases it is advisable to check the fork as it is probably not in good condition.

Fork in poor condition

Due to the age of the vehicle fleet, there is a problem of poor disengagement, in which case it is necessary to check the steering system, but also to replace the fork, because if it is deformed, it does not guarantee the correct functioning of the clutch.

Poor bearing support

Another common fault is clutch failure due to poor support of the fork in the bearing. This happens because the fork supports in the bearing are not symmetrical, so the fork is not supported correctly and does not slide on the guide. The symptom is that the pedal is hard and does not change gears properly.

For all these possible faults, which are often caused by clutch malfunction when the clutch is replaced or repaired by the workshop, it is advisable to have the parts analysed in order to identify the source of the problem in the first place. It is also advisable to check the rest of the kit when replacing the clutch, to avoid any immediate problems with the customer.
