The growing advanced technology incorporated into modern vehicles has long posed a challenge for workshops. But it also worries drivers. A study by the Midas workshop network reveals that 43% of Spaniards feel uneasy when it comes time to perform maintenance or repairs on today’s cars.
Specifically, the survey results show that the increasing presence of advanced technology in vehicles generates confusion and anxiety, as identifying problems requires new knowledge and skills that drivers generally do not possess. In response to this challenge, 56.1% of respondents say they always trust experts for the maintenance and repair of their vehicles. Similarly, 43.8% of Spaniards believe that modern technology packages increase the likelihood of malfunctions and make them more difficult to resolve, making specialist assistance crucial.
However, 47% of respondents feel comfortable with technology, seeing it as an ideal complement to driving thanks to the most appreciated technological advances. In addition, 44.7% associate technology with safety, with 47% considering it a significant aid and the perfect complement for driving.
Most valued features
The most valued features include parking sensors (26.9%), lane-keeping assistance (15.4%), and keyless entry and start (10.3%)—technological elements that are a decisive factor in the purchase for 31% of respondents.
Other features, such as GPS, are especially relevant on unfamiliar routes, as 70% of respondents report that GPS provides peace of mind by ensuring they reach their destination without problems, thanks to directions and routes that avoid traffic jams and tolls.
Nevertheless, 36% of Spaniards admit that they do not fully take advantage of their vehicle’s technology. Additionally, 13.4% say that current technology distracts them, and 4% feel overwhelmed and do not fully understand the onboard technology.
