A workshop that does not adopt measures to digitize itself, appropriately, is falling behind, and its future is at stake. Experts in the aftermarket have been warning about this for years. After all, it is a critical factor that can significantly influence operational efficiency and profitability. Yet, it remains an unfinished task for a significant portion of Spanish workshops, according to the 2024 White Paper on Workshops by Conepa and MSI.
The report details the use of various technological platforms in workshops, providing insight into the extent of digitalization in the sector and how crucial it is for small and medium-sized workshops to integrate into this digital transformation to avoid being left behind in an increasingly competitive market.
For example, regarding platforms that allow spare parts to be purchased efficiently and cost-effectively, 69% of workshops report having access to such a platform. In other words, three out of ten do not, which could indicate limitations in workshops’ ability to optimize their supply operations.
Regarding the availability of Workshop Management Systems (DMS), crucial for daily workshop administration by providing tools to manage inventory, appointments, billing, and customer records, the report shows that 79% of surveyed workshops plan to implement a DMS. Notably, the remaining 20%, mainly small workshops, do not have this type of system, creating a significant digital gap in this sector of the market.
In addition, 68% of workshops have systems that provide them with up-to-date technical information, which is essential to ensure quality service and compatibility with new vehicle models. Meanwhile, only 29% of workshops use specialized systems for damage assessment, an essential tool for those that work regularly with insurers.
Finally, regarding platforms for active vehicle reception, only 23% of workshops currently use platforms aimed at improving the vehicle reception experience, suggesting a significant opportunity to enhance customer interaction.
