Pure electric vehicles continue to have<\/strong> low sales<\/strong> figures in our country for another year<\/strong>. This is not the case for hybrids, although there is a clear trend towards hybridisation<\/strong> of the fleet<\/strong> in the coming years. This is not unique to Spain. In Europe as a whole, the all-electric fleet is barely more than 1%.<\/p>\n

But the reluctance of drivers to embrace electric vehicles seems to be shared by workshops. This is reflected in a Bosch Automotive Aftermarket<\/strong> survey of European workshops, one of the key findings of which is that four out of ten garages \u201cignore\u201d this type of vehicle when it arrives at their premises. In other words, 40% of the workshops that had the opportunity to repair an electric vehicle decided to send it to a manufacturer or a third party<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that most of the repairers of electric vehicles<\/strong> are located in large cities. Therefore, outside these areas, with a few exceptions, repairers will not find such a vehicle in the coming years. As a result, four in ten European repairers does not consider the treatment of electric vehicles a priority<\/strong> and therefore does not intend to integrate this type of service.<\/p>\n

Among the reasons given for this lack of interest, 6 out of 10 consider that they \u201cneed specific training<\/strong> to repair vehicles\u201d. This is despite the fact that, according to the study, 93% of the repairs carried out by workshops working on electrical systems are standard<\/strong>: lighting, wiper blades, etc. In other words, \u201cthey can be carried out by all professionals\u201d, the study says, and would only require additional precautions to be taken when handling the vehicle in relation to its batteries.<\/p>\n

Similarly, data from the consultancy GiPA<\/strong>, used in the Bosch study, shows that workshops change an average of more than 70 parts per year for electric vehicles, of which between 15 and 40 are not specific to these vehicles. In fact, the electric-specific parts – such as the charger, inverter controller, motor and battery type<\/strong> – are changed less than five times a year.<\/p>\n

For the workshops surveyed, vehicle temperature control is one of the most important aspects to consider when working on these vehicles, as electrical systems often need to cool down for proper operation and heat up in extreme outdoor temperatures.<\/p>\n

Other findings from the survey show that the availability of electric-only parts is not an issue<\/strong>. In other words, it is the same as for internal combustion vehicles. What is a challenge is access to technical support and information for this type of vehicle. For many aftersales companies, this is a fundamental aspect of making the leap to working with this type of technology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
