Even when things are going well, the dreaded stress can appear. Running a business like this means that we are constantly thinking about how satisfied customers will be, will they come back?, will we make ends meet?, are the employees happy to work?, are we prepared for the future? Many questions that can exert exhausting pressure.

So we are going to give you in the REMSA km0 blog some guidelines to cope with that stress, get the best out of us, optimize customer service and enjoy life.

Tips for staying calm and managing stress

A. Keep in mind the positive things already accomplished

Don’t forget all the good stuff we have in the workshop. Think positive; sometimes we forget the good deeds. Don’t let it be like that, list them even on a blackboard. Then, when the bad times come you can look at them and remember that many things that used to be challenges are now achievements.

B. Prioritize your tasks

You will feel better if you organize your workload by importance. One of the most common causes of stress is the feeling that there is too much to do. But you don’t have to solve everything at once; focus on the most important thing at any given time.

C. Write down your concerns

Instead of your tasks and problem-solving assailing you all hours of the day and at home as well. Write down what you are worried about and also note down whether there is a solution. It’s a way to turn the page and address it in your work time. Psychologically, you have discharged the thought and have “outgrown” it.

D. Start with the easiest question

Once we have the list of concerns, classify them in order of difficulty to solve; you will be surprised to find that the most important problems may be the easiest to solve. For example, a good Internet connection in the workshop will solve stress problems that surely affect all of you.

E. Get regular rest

A short break will help you approach issues with greater clarity. Many times we get stuck on something and there is no way to find the solution. It’s time to rest, and when we come back from the break it turns out that we have found the solution. A short break, even just 10 minutes, may be all you need.

F. Think of yourself, take care of yourself

Exercise and eat properly, especially plenty of fruits and vegetables, and hydrate often. And, of course, get enough sleep. An auto repair shop is best run when you feel good and refreshed.

Exercise releases anxieties and stress. If you’re feeling stressed, sometimes it’s better to exercise than to relax.

G. Identify what causes you stress

If you feel that stress is overpowering you, take a moment, reflect on what is happening to you, take a deep breath and ask what is bothering you. You can’t see your problem in perspective and address it if you don’t know what it is.

H. Talk to someone

Chatting with your boss, colleagues, employees or family prevents you from keeping them to yourself and is often beneficial; sharing your problems can also solve them. I’m sure your people help you because they appreciate you.

I. Further training

It may be that a particular type of repair is especially stressful or that there is a skills gap in your team that increases the pressure on you. So consider further training. Even if it costs money it could save you money in the long run.

[box_twitter]Running a business like it is a workshop means that we are constantly thinking about how satisfied customers will be.[/box_twitter]

J. Promise what you can deliver

Make sure the customer knows that their vehicle will be ready, for example, at the end of the day, not at lunchtime. Put yourself under a reasonable amount of stress. You will have happier customers if you ‘under-promise but over-deliver’.

We hope these tips will help you to manage your workshop with less stress because it will result in excellent customer service.

Managing a workshop shop can generate a lot of stress, even when things are going well.
